One goal of the LtL directionality activities is to help students develop a logical understanding of front and back direction. As this understanding grows, the concept naturally transfers from the People Line to the student's own name. By simply writing their name at the top of a page, students create a familiar directional guide that can be used anytime the People Line is unavailable.

For added fun, use the Progressive Word List as a game to help your student discover how many words are now within their current decoding scope. Keep the experience positive, encouraging, and free from pressure or guessing.

The small letter Gg always smiles towards the front to be an even better good guy.
The capital Gg goes out of his way to help those behind him.
The small letter Hh keeps his hands in the back, so his fingers won’t get stepped on.

This essential step of transferring the understanding from the vowel shapes of the string to a flat horizontal line and curved shape on paper is a very important conceptually.
