To reinforce student learning:

Yy is very tired from their two jobs of being both vowels and consonants. So, the lowercase letter Yy yawns stretched out leaning towards the back.
Zz are directional guides for reading. They start in the front and go towards the back. Then they go down and start again on the front side and go towards the back. Following Zz’s example - you’ll zip right into reading!

The letters Yy take time, understanding, and repetition, but their information always stays the same.
When Yy is in the FRONT of a word, it is a consonant and proudly makes its own sound—the /y/ sound, like in yawn.
The rest of the time, Yy becomes a vowel. Most often, it pretends to be its good friend Ii, making either the short or long sound of Ii.
EXCEPT...
When Yy is at the END of a word, is not next to another vowel, and is not the only vowel in the word, it gets so excited that it screams out, "EEEE!"—calling out the name of its other good friend!

Reiteration - When there are two of the same consonants standing together in a word, one simply splits the word in between them into two syllables.
