Lesson 4 - Review up to Letters Oo an more
To reinforce student learning:
-
Decoding Application - Humming
Using various aspects to associate to helps in strengthening the understanding of gaining fluency. Associating the continuous sound of humming to properly capture helps in relating the continuing sounds of letters together to better hear a word
-
Applying the symbols to the Vowel letters on paper
Script: Because the vowels are SO IMPORTANT (no vowels- no words!), they have been given at least two sounds, a long sound and a short sound.
Suggested Activity: Write 2 of each of the vowels on a paper (DO NOT INCLUDE Yy) . Then have your student place a long sound symbol over the top of one and the short symbol over the other with all of them.
And as you now know, “The Long Sound is the Letters’ Name!”
Go through and tell the names and sound of each while pointing to them.
-
Roll a die and count that many down the Progressive Word List and circle a word. Do this two more times circling back over the words.. Decode the words and use in a quick story.
-
[Remember: a consonant is a big words that just means regular letter - NOT a vowel. ]
When there are two consonants at the end of a word, just say their single sound a bit stronger and louder; there is no reason to say it twice! Like in the words-
ill dill egg.
-
When a very special person stands in the back of the line, a big LONG fuss is usually made. In the same way, when a vowel is the only vowel in a word, stands in the back, it usually makes a long sound.
he me hi go no
Therefore, placement is very important in determining the which sound the vowels make. The Mini-Poster is to help remember the reasoning of the story.
-
When the letters Cc and Kk are together a word, they do not make two separate sound- no no! Instead, they only make one really, really hard K” sound. Like in the words:
kick lick lock
