Parent/Instructor Guide

Before beginning the learning adventure with your student in Letters to Language™: Making Sense of the Alphabet, please take a few minutes to go through this section—it is designed just for you.

When learning is fun, a lot of learning gets done!
— LaVerne McGrath

To become a more positive and powerful source of support in a student’s learning often requires a shift in how we view learning itself—sometimes even letting go of old ideas about what learning “should” look like.

In Letters to Language™ (LtL), learning is approached as a joyful, meaningful experience—a wonderful opportunity to grow in knowledge, confidence, and self-expression.

LtL provides many proven, fun, and effective ways to build a strong foundation for decoding, writing, and spelling. It demonstrates how learning can be both highly effective and deeply enjoyable when imagination, creativity, empathy, and multiple learning modalities are used together.

As a parent or instructor, your role is to help create a positive, encouraging environment where the student can explore, discover, and grow.

Learning in Letters to Language™ should always be experienced as joyful and engaging—never as a punishment.

Letters to Language™ helps transform the love you have for your child into a love of learning that they can carry for life.

Roles

The LtL Videos Teach

Lessons are carefully sequenced so each builds on the one before.
The videos guide the learning—introducing concepts through engaging, multi-sensory instruction.

The Parent/Instructor Supports

Your role is to facilitate, support and reinforce—helping your student stay engaged through simple prompts and activities.

The Student Learns

The student learns by watching, interacting, and participating—building understanding through experience.

Color, Write & Practice

After each letter lesson, the student uses the Letters to Language™ Practice Coloring Book to:

  • Color the matching illustration

  • Practice forming the letter

This helps strengthen understanding through visual and hands-on experience.

Play, Prompt & Reinforce

After each review, the parent/instructor uses the Reinforcing Materials (Parent/Instructor Manual) to:

  • Guide simple activities

  • Use Power Prompts™

  • Reinforce what the student has learned

These moments help deepen understanding through interaction and play.

Support for Parent/Instructor

The short videos below will guide you step-by-step, giving you the knowledge and confidence to support your child as they move through the program.

Your role is simply to reinforce what is taught in the lessons—creating a positive, encouraging learning experience.

If you have any questions along the way, please feel free to reach out. LaVerne is here to help guide you.
