The Story Behind Think about Thinking™ (TaT)

Think about Thinking™ was created from a deep desire to better understand how people experience and guide their thoughts, emotions, and actions—and to offer positive, practical ways to strengthen inner peace in everyday life.

In loving remembrance of my son, Jesse D. Johns, this work was born from a deep desire to help others guide their thoughts and emotions with greater understanding, strength, and compassion.

Simplifying the Complex

Emotions can feel complicated and ever-changing.
Think about Thinking™ was created to help make them easier to understand and manage.

The TaT “LOAD” concept gently simplifies emotional overwhelm into four core experiences:

Loneliness • Overwhelm • Anger • Depression

By recognizing these early, individuals can guide their thoughts and emotions before they descend into despair—and return to a place of clarity and peace

Different Ways

A simple question began the journey:

“Does the experience of loneliness differ between introverts and extroverts?”

From there, many more questions naturally followed:

  • How do people learn to guide their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors?

  • Do these skills come by chance—or by observing others?

  • Are people even aware that they have the ability to guide themselves?

These questions opened the door to a much deeper exploration of how people manage their inner worlds.

Gathering Wisdom

At the heart of Think about Thinking™ is one powerful question:

“What do people do to better handle their lives?”

To explore this, a special interview process—called the Think about Thinking™ Process—was created.

Trained TaT interviewers began gathering insight from people of all backgrounds, asking six guiding questions about how individuals:

  • unplug

  • reset

  • and manage their emotions

especially during times of loneliness, overwhelm, anger, and depression.

This collection of wisdom has continued for years—and continues to grow and evolve today.

Creating Gold

Over many years of exploration, lived experience, and meaningful interviews, a wealth of wisdom has been lovingly gathered.

From this, we have carefully curated what we call Think about Thinking’s Golden Wisdom—insights that are valid, uplifting, and focused on the positive ways people guide their thoughts and emotions.

These “golden nuggets” have been thoughtfully transformed into:

  • engaging video vignettes

  • uplifting presentations

  • and meaningful, guided sessions

Each piece is presented on the TaT site with supportive materials to help deepen understanding and application.

Optional live events provide opportunities to learn together, connect with others, and experience a growing sense of unity within the TaT community.

Sharing Gold

The Think about Thinking™ website was created as a welcoming, easy-to-use space for sharing the wisdom gathered through TaT.

It offers a meaningful collection of positive practices, sessions, presentations, and guided resources—all designed to help individuals strengthen emotional balance and cultivate inner peace.

The TaT Member Site now includes over 200 videos and resources and continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our members.

The Heart Behind Think about Thinking™

In loving remembrance of Jesse D. Johns, Think about Thinking™ was created to help bring greater understanding, compassion, and strength to the way we experience and guide our thoughts and emotions.

His life continues to inspire this work—encouraging us to support one another, grow in self-awareness, and cultivate inner peace in the midst of life’s complexities.

“This work continues in his honor.”

Jesse D. Johns, LaVerne McGrath’s son, is the heart and inspiration behind Think about Thinking™—his life continues to guide the compassion and purpose of this work.

“The more positive practice tools we have, the more calmly and effectively we can navigate life.”

Originating TaT Foundational Concepts

Many of the foundational concepts of Think about Thinking™ can be found in the books written by LaVerne McGrath, founder of TaT: This Gift of Life, The Evolution of Self, The Power of You, and Sheep. These titles are available in our store and through Amazon.
