Favorite Positive Practices

I was recently asked, “Do you have 3 to 5 favorite Positive Practices that you would say are the most important for kids to have in their toolbox?”

This truly gave me reason to ponder this question before I answered. This is how I ended up responding:

I am NOT a counselor; therefore, I am very hesitant to answer that question because I am not qualified to make a selection of which of the many positive practices would be the most important for “kids to have in their tool box”. Of course, I feel the same way with any human – regardless of age. Truly, it depends on what and how they are experience in a current moment in time (along with background, environment, personality, etc.). Though I do believe that sharing and increasing our “tools’ is the key to our survival in avoiding despair.

“The more tools we have, the more issues we can handle.”

However, given that I do know that teenager’s brains go through re-construction (until their late 20s); this causes a type of rerouting of their ‘logic processing’ to be detoured to their amygdala brain section = emotional processing area. Therefore, I believe using a filter with that for the positive practices may be effective in deciding which may be more effective. So, I think it would be best to use those using emotional reasoning and/or enjoyable activities would probably be more effective than those that address areas of logical reasoning.

Knowing which area (Unplug, Reset, Lonely, Overwhelmed, Angry, Depressed) is the most important to share also is difficult. Though, I do believe ultimately the most imperative is being able to Unplug. Yet, at times, we must first deal with our emotions first before being effective with that.

To me it is more important thing to emphasize is in have discussions and inner-reflections on what, how many and how effective the Positive practices they  have to use in each area (URLOAD) in their lives now. This the main purpose of TaT – to gain wisdom from us (humans) for us in sharing. One person doesn’t hold all solutions, but together we increase our chances. 😊

With that all being said, I can tell you my favorite examples of the Positive Practices that TaT provides and why they are so powerful.

“Calm, Balanced, Peace” is one that automatically comes to mind because the many aspects in it came together in a synergistic way.

“Laugh” is also one that is so extremely simple to do because in truth laughter is very contagious and healing.

“Foundational Breathing”, I have used for over thirty years with every child that I have tutored because it is universally effective.

Then i pondered if i needed to go into all of that. LOL!
